Did Condeleeza Rice Say "It cannot be Gaza only."

Charles Johnson highlights a review of the transcript of an interview by the New York Times with Condeleeza Rice from last week. The quote in question appeared in the NY Times when asked about the Israeli withdrawl from the Gaza Strip as "It cannot be Gaza only."

"Jewish Current Issues" blog takes a look at the transcript posted by the State Department of the interview and finds the quote was engineered by the NY Times by combining two unrelated statements. Rich Richman writes...
Indeed, it didn’t . . . she doesn’t . . .and in fact the Times made the quote up.

Oh how special it would be to have the privelage to examine the raw data collected by the NY Times for their stories. I'd love to see their notes, their unedited questions and their recordings of interviews. We learn again today that the NY Times has a way of turning good news into bad news.

Robertson-Televangelist-Million Viewers/Stephanopolous-Presidential Adviser-Nuff Said

Newsmax puts the media response to Pat Robertson's comments regarding Hugo Chavez in political context. After leaving the White House, George Stephanopolous wrote an article in Newsweek that encouraged President Clinton to assasinate Saddam Hussein.
"Assassination may be Clinton's best option," the future "This Week" host urged. "If we can kill Saddam, we should."

Read the Newsmax article and go read the Newsweek article. You have to find the Newsweek article on your own.

Cedric Benson Appears at Halas Hall

Yesterday I read that Bears first round draft pick Cedric Benson has put his Libertyville home up for sale and shipped two cars back to Texas. Today I read that he made a surprise appearance at Halas Hall to meet with Bears GM Jerry Angelo.

Yesterday's information came from a Texas sports writer that has followed Benson since his Texas High School football days. Then again, the Tribune reports this today.
Benson was in town to put the Lake County home he purchased shortly after being drafted on the market.

This guy has been a real workout for Bears' fans. I haven't even seen him play a down in the NFL and I already question his motivation.

Jesse Jackson Virus Alive And Well

Jesse Jackson has been invited to Venezuela to address their National Assembly.

Was this invitation extended after Pat Robertson's comments about Hugo Chavez?
Who is paying for the trip?

Apparently Jesse spoke today in Chicago with a representative of the Venezuelan Consul General's office. I just might call his office to inquire.

Minnesota Gov Eats PETA Request

Govenor Pawlenty of Minnesota took a request from PETA to heart, and to his stomach. Story Here
"PETA should stay out of Minnesota's proud fishing lifestyle," Pawlenty said Tuesday in a two-paragraph news release issued by his staff. "Because of their letter, I'm going out for a walleye dinner tonight."

Well done.
